Aaron Spohr, CG®

I was born and raised in Northern California. As a young child, I have vivid memories of my grandfather telling me that the Vikings were our ancestors. I was immediately hooked on learning more about family history.

One of my most memorable assignments in junior high school was to interview family members and create a basic family tree. That project reeled me in! I wrote frantically as my grandparents described all the names and dates they could remember. I still have those original notes – and have been building on that tree ever since!

Having many Scandinavian ancestors, I jumped at the opportunity to live in Denmark for a year as an exchange student in high school. I spent that time immersed in the culture and lived with two wonderful families who helped me learn the Danish language and values.

In college, among other things, I studied the Swedish language for two years and then spent a semester living in Stockholm with a friend’s family. It is easy to say that at the time I was a Nordic culture and language junkie!

I graduated from the University of California at Davis with a degree in Fermentation Science and have spent the last 25 years working in both the brewing and winemaking industries, starting in California, then Virginia, and finally to where I have lived and worked for the last 16 years in St. James, “The Forest City of the Ozarks,” in south-central Missouri.

As I have gotten older and my priorities are changing, I wanted to turn my real passion into a vocation, and decided to professionalize as a Certified Genealogist®.

I look forward to working with you!
